Gardening can be a relaxing way to improve the way the landscape looks, enjoy the outdoors and burn a few calories. A good way to start gardening is assess the plot of land that is to be worked on.
Ask a few questions such as what do I want done here, how much time do I have, how much do I want to spend, is there a theme to the area, etc.
Once you have decided all the answers to these questions it is time to get planning. Write down what you wish to be done to the area, decided a budget (and try to keep to it!), and allot a period of time.
Draw up designs for the garden, this can either be done with pencil and paper on using software such as Google Sketch, a free basic drawing software. Once everything is planned out, do some research. Go to your local nursery or Home Depot and price out how much things will cost/buy necessary tools and materials.
Common gardening tools required include: shovels, spades, hose, wheelbarrow, rake, trowels, etc. These tools can be bought new or purchased cheaply at garage sales, on sites such as Craigslist, or found in the classified section of the newspaper. Once the tools and materials have been gathered it is time to prepare the ground. Remove any trash from the area, remove unwanted plants and prepare the ground for landscaping. T
hen, using your plan that you had previously prepared being laying out the plants, paths, flower beds, etc. After everything has been layout and installed, clean up the area put the tools away and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
The process of gardening can be very relaxing and fulfilling, especially when you finish and can sit back and enjoy the area you have transformed.
