My favourite DIY home improvement project was building mosaic projects from broken pieces of tile. Last summer we remodelled our hallway bathroom and used the most beautiful slate tiles on the floor and tub surround. After we were done I was left with a huge and heavy box of broken and imperfect pieces of the slate, as well as scraps of pieces that had been cut off of pieces to fit in the bathroom.
