Gardens can be beautiful and they can be functional. A garden that provides herbs and vegetables is very functional as it provides food for the family. A flower garden can be beautiful in that there are flowers that are colorful and fragrant. Any garden can be improved and made nicer with a few easy additions. One easy way to make any garden nicer is with lighting. Gone are the days where you have to run cords or hire electricians to put in expensive lighting. The new solar lights can be placed anywhere you wish. Each year they get better and better. They now have brighter lights and longer lasting than the originals.
There are even solar spotlights for highlighting a specific item for extra emphasis. A mistake that many people make is to buy the lights right away and put them in the ground during the day. This can result in a haphazard display of lights. A better way would be to observe your garden at night. Where do you need lighting? Is there a path that you want to highlight or even construct with the lights? Is there something that you want to shine a brighter light on to highlight it? Go out at night, look around, and then come in and make notes. Another thing that you want to look at is your existing outdoor lighting. Perhaps if you place a solar light in a certain place, your outdoor lampost will “drown” it out and it will get lost.
Also, count how many lights you will need.
Then make a list and go to the store. Since you have done your homework, you should be able to place the lights where you want them during the day. Then at night, see how they look. If it is safe for you to do so in the dark, rearrange them and put them exactly where you want. The nice thing about solar lights is that you can move them to wherever you want! Once you have observed your lights for a few nights, you can decide if you want to purchase more. Fortunately, they are reasonably priced so this is definitely an option. Then sit back and enjoy your garden day or night!
