Now the first thing we have to agree on is to what real purpose do you want a garden, Or say decorative, Or to grow fruits and vegetables or does an Ornamental or Motif style serve your needs better along with the fact that you can at times have both!….. Many people today want a wet garden where they have a small waterfall or fountain worked in and usually these are ornamental though one person -quietly channelled- a stream to irrigate a small vegetable patch while another used an small water wheel both to ad decor along with also using the wheel to generate extra electric power to run tools in his small workshop nearby.
But there are as many needs as there are persons as one enterprising lady had a beautiful flower display in her front yard but behind a hedge row in back grew a rather sizeable vegetable patch which helped by keeping her ‘retired husband’ busy along with the rather neat benefit the couple enjoyed by keeping their Grocery Bill down somewhat though of course if display and flowers are your rationale then possibly a small green or hothouse may well be the ticket to your enjoyment for very many things can be grown to advantage in a good soil if the conditions are right and the ground or patch is suitably watered and the soil is properly layered and mulched to advantage,.
And at times one should also watch for opportunity as one older gentleman had a problem with rabbits from a nearby wood coming in and nibbling a bit on his vegetables but he speedily solved that both by discreetly building a small retaining fence to keep the rabbits out though he cunningly trapped several and raised them in a small hutch though in his case he lived on ‘the outskirts’ of a large city and his local code didn’t prohibit a rabbit hutch so from time to time he enjoyed a bit of roast rabbit along with his vegetables!. So as can readily be seen there are many needs and opportunities that can be met while gardening though the best decision is always the one that meets your needs!
